Welcome
Welcome to the team.
The Kent eVent Team is a partnership between Kent County Council and the voluntary sector in Kent, aimed at recruiting volunteers for events and one-off sport, leisure and cultural activities across the county, including the build up to the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games in London.
The project is managed and run by Voluntary Action Maidstone.
Volunteers
By end of December 2011, over 1800 people were registered as volunteers, and by the end of 2012, it is hoped 2500 volunteers will make up the team.
Team members come from across Kent, with a spectrum of skills and abilities, and they will be offered the chance to volunteer at a wide range of exciting events. The flexibility of the scheme allows people to get involved and get a taste of volunteering without making a regular commitment.
The benefits to event organisers
Anyone organising an event in the voluntary, community or statutory sector in Kent (any event that is not for profit) is able to register and make a request for volunteers, as long as the event meets the basic requirements, for example in health and safety.
The outcome should be more successful and effective events, due to the increased support from a volunteer workforce.
2012, The Year of the London Olympics and Paralympics
2012 has begun and the final countdown to the London Games is underway.
There will be a wide range of Olympic Games related activities in Kent, in areas such as tourism, the arts and with young people, many requiring volunteers, and the Kent eVent team is ideally placed to provide these volunteers so that the events can run effectively.
We are already working with partners to gather information, and we are starting to publish details of events which offer exciting opportunities for volunteers to get involved.
There are going to be some amazing Once in a lifetime events taking place.
We will be there for many of them. Will you?
